The life cycle of an axolotl

What is an axolotl? An axolotl is an amphibian from Mexico, that means it spends part of its life outside and in the water, but axolotls stay in the water. The azters people thought that ancient azters was going to die so he decided to turn into an axolotl to live forever.

First axolotls start as a translucent jellie-like egg that are laid by adult axolotls, near rocks and plants. These eggs are tiny as a pea. Can you believe that! When these axolotls hatch they eat their eggs. The Axolotl is part of a spawn when it is laid, a spawn is a group of axolotls.

Then when the axolotls are larvae they are like tadpoles with a long thin tail. Axotols have gills and lungs like humans do but live underwater for most of their life. If axolotls gills stop working the lungs are their backup plan.

When axolotls reach the young adult age they grow limbs and a tail. Axolotls dont go through Morphosis like humans do. Axolotls keep their aquatic features for all their life. At this age axolotls start hunting worms, insects, tadpoles and shrimp brine, Gross right!

Finally the axolotls have reached their adult age they start mating with male or female axolotls. Adult axolotls can regrow body parts and regrow organs, that’s crazy! Axoltls also breathe through their skin. They also have different types of colours, brown, pink and green.
